I'm Baaaackkkk!!!

Happy 2010! (Only 4 months late...) Needless to say, I've been a bit busy since little Miss Addelyn was born back in November. But, after five months of figuring out how to be a Mommy of 2, I'm ready to start sewing/quilting again!

Right before Addelyn was born, I finished a blanket for a gentleman in the Army who was returning from Afghanistan. His mom took all of his old uniforms and Army tshirts. It was a precious piece that I am proud to have made. I'm awaiting electronic pictures from her and when I receive them I'll post!

In addition to tshirt blankets, I've also made several baby quilts.... these make GREAT keepsake blankets for moms, grandparents, and other loved ones. I've recently taken all of my son Tucker's receiving blankets and turned them into a rag quilt... in my mind I see him taking it off to college with him, or wrapping up his first born child... oh a Mommy can dream, right?

I'll be posting the 2010 pricing in the next few days.... each individual blanket is unique in its design and materials, so pricing will vary from piece to piece. In addition to the price of materials, you can expect to pay about $45 for each baby blanket and approximately $8 per tshirt for tshirt blankets.

If you have any questions, please email me! Also, become a fan on Facebook!

July/August Quilts!

Here are the two latest blankets that I've made... one for a young lady who has just left for college and a second for a sweet girl that babysat my son and played softball for me while I coached high school. I hope both of these girls treasure the memories left behind in these tshirts!
Also, please note that because I am expecting a baby girl the week of Thanksgiving, I have to have ALL blanket/quilt orders in (including materials) by October 20th. So don't delay! Remember, not all babies come when they are "scheduled"!!

First "REAL" Quilt!!

Thank you all for your overwhelming response to Sleeveless Comforts! I will indeed be very busy during these next few weeks which is such a blessing. While I'm waiting for you to gather your tshirts and get them to me, I've continued "tinkering" and have completed my first true "quilt" rather than a blanket.

I'm so excited about this one in particular as it's a baby quilt for my dear friend Nicholas and his wife Nicole as they await their new little bundle of joy (we don't know yet if it's a boy or a girl!!) Nick is currently serving in Iraq and will be home at the end of the month to meet his new son or daughter.

The quilt top was pieced together with a machine, batting was handstitched, and then the backing was handtied with matching yarn bundles. I am working on hand-tying a tshirt quilt and when I have the "art" mastered, I'll let everyone know and begin offering it as an option for Sleeveless Comforts.

What if I don't have enough tshirts?

What a great question! I knew someone would ask something I hadn't covered... I suggest that you choose a fabric that matches either the colors or the theme of the blanket as a "filler" square as I've done here. I have just finished this blanket top this week (hence the lack of backing and the wrinkles..). This gift is for a young lady that I coached in softball and who also babysat my son for a few weeks. She only gave me 5 shirts, so I had limited resources to work with. I just LOVE the mud stain on the Alcovy Softball tshirt.. Looks like I worked her pretty hard on the infield! :) Such character!

More Pictures!

This is the very first tshirt blanket that I made for my husband. It does not have a border (sashing), but that's only because I wasn't too sure what I was doing... It's lasted a good 6 years, 4 beach trips, and probably 40+ loads of laundry!

DETAILS, DETAILS, DETAILS!!

Thank you for the overwhelming response to Sleeveless Comforts!! Looks like I might have a busy summer and fall making all of your Christmas blankets! This makes me super excited!
Remember, place your order before September 1st for your holiday gifts and you'll receive a 20% discount!!
But now for the details as I've promised: Please let me know if there is anything that I've left out. I've tried to answer all of the obvious questions, but I'm sure that some of you will think of other great ones.
Feel free to email me at sleevelesscomforts@gmail.com or find me on my Facebook page and I'll get back to you ASAP!!

How Many Tshirts Do I Need?

With standard size 1” - 2" sashing and a 3" - 4" border:
12 or 15 shirts = throw/lap size blanket.
20 or 24 tshirts = twin size bed.
25 or 30 tshirts = double size bed.
36 tshirts = queen size bed.
42 tshirts = king size bed.
The sashing, or borders can be adjusted to your specifications. The above recommendations are simply what I’ve used in the past. The squares cut from the tshirts are usually 12" x 12” (depending on the logo).
**MOST IMPORTANT: Please do NOT cut the tshirts yourself.

How Much Does A Sleeveless Comfort Tshirt Blanket Cost?

T-shirt blankets are $5 per t-shirt square plus the materials cost. I try very hard to keep material costs at a minimum, but it will all depend on what’s available at the local fabric store.
Material costs depend on the size of the blanket and include backing fabric, sashing fabric, and thread. If possible, I prefer that you shop with me so that you can pick out your own fabrics personally. If this is not possible, I will follow your color and pattern preferences.

Below is a sample of the yardage for each type of blanket (some variation depending on the blanket):
Throw/Lap Blanket: 5 yds backing, 1.5 yds sashing
Twin: 6 yds backing, 2 yds sashing
Full/Double: 7 yds backing, 2-2.5 yds sashing
Queen: 9 yds backing, 2.5-3 yds sashing
King: 9.5 yds backing, 3 yds sashing

How Long Does it Take to Make a Tshirt Blanket?

Considering that I am a Mom of an almost 2-year-old, I like to give at least 3 weeks for each blanket; however, time frames are dependent upon how many orders I have when you place your’s.

Need your tshirt blanket in a hurry? Blankets required in less than 3 weeks will be subject to a premium charge (dependent upon the time frame needed). So order EARLY to ensure your blanket on time for those special occasions!

How Do I Pay for My Tshirt Blanket?

Because this is not an “official business” for me, I only accept cash or check at this time. A $25 deposit is due at the time of the order so that I can begin purchasing the materials for your blanket. The full amount will be due at the time of pick-up/delivery.
